LACEY — A triple shooting inside a suburban home left one person dead Monday, and authorities scoured the area for a gunman who fled in a dark hoodie by jumping over backyard fences.
Lacey police Cmdr. Jim Mack said one victim was fatally wounded and two were taken to a hospital for treatment. He said later that they were talking with police.
The person who was killed was described as a 23-year-old Lacey man. He was not immediately identified.
Eight schools were temporarily placed on lockdown as law enforcement officers spread across several square miles in search of the gunman. Mack said he couldn’t remember the last homicide that happened in the city, a suburb of the state capital and 60 miles south of Seattle.
“Lacey is a pretty quiet area, and this is a quiet neighborhood,” Mack said.
After getting information that the gunman had fled toward a nearby home, officers surrounded the area with a SWAT team and canine units.
The gunman was not found, but two men inside that home were detained for questioning. Mack told The Olympian later that those two were not believed to have been involved in the shooting.
The shooting appears to be an isolated attack stemming from an argument, Mack said.
The North Thurston schools that were locked down Monday morning were Chambers Prairie, Horizons, Lakes, Mountain View, Woodland, Aspire, Komachin and Timberline.
