FAIRBANKS, Alaska — A driver in a small sedan died Monday morning in a crash with a semi in west Fairbanks.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports an eastbound 18-wheeler on Airport Way shortly after 6 a.m. was turning left onto University Avenue and was T-boned by the westbound sedan.
The sedan was demolished.
The driver of the semi, 56-year-old Benny Easters, and a passenger were not hurt.
Alaska State Trooper supervisor Jess Carson says alcohol and speed may have been factors in the crash. Investigators say the car was driving well above the posted speed of 45 mph.
The truck was carrying hazardous material. Troopers say the cargo was not damaged or spilled.
The name of the person killed was not immediately released. Troopers were attempting to contact next of kin.
