MONROE — One person was killed on Highway 522 near the Snohomish River bridge Friday evening when the driver apparently attempted a U-turn and was struck by an oncoming sport utility vehicle.
The accident happened about 7 p.m. just east of the bridge, said trooper Lance Ramsay of the Washington State Patrol.
The accident blocked both eastbound and westbound lanes Ramsay said, and the highway remained closed late Friday evening.
The deceased driver’s name and hometown were not immediately available.
The driver of the sport utility vehicle was not believed to be seriously hurt.
