SEATTLE — The snow that moved across Washington on Wednesday seems to be heaviest in the southwest corner of the state.
About a foot of new snow was on the ground by 7:30 a.m. in Olympia.
The meteorologist in charge of the National Weather Service office in Seattle, Brad Colman, said Olympia could break the record of 14 inches of snow in a 24-hour period. Areas south of Olympia could get 20 inches. Colman said, “They’re getting hammered.”
Some other amounts: 15 inches at Napavine, 7 at Tacoma and 2 at Sea-Tac Airport.
At the Spokane Weather Service office, meteorologist Colby Neuman said the Palouse would get 6 to 10 inches, the most since 1998. He expected 2 to 4 inches Wednesday in Spokane. Most of the Eastern Washington snow will be south of Interstate 90, with lesser amounts north of I-90.
