KENNEWICK — Investigators in Kennewick say a woman found dead after a mobile home fire is believed to be the mother of another woman who escaped the blaze with serious injuries.
Benton County Coroner John Hansens said Monday a positive identification likely won’t be possible until an autopsy is completed Tuesday.
Neighbors told the Tri-City Herald that the woman they saw escaping early Monday through a back window said her mother was still inside.
The woman who escaped suffered severe smoke inhalation and burns. Hansens says she has been flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment. Investigators have not been able to talk to her.
No other victims have been found. The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
