MARYSVILLE — A pedestrian died Sunday evening after a car hit him on I-5, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The man, later identified as Daryl Bertsch, parked his car around 5 p.m. on the shoulder of I-5 near Mile Post 197, between Everett and Marysville, according to the state patrol. Bertsch, 58, was filling up his car with fuel.
A Dodge Ram traveling south struck Bertsch and his car on the right shoulder, state trooper Kelsey Harding said. Bertsch died at the scene.
Authorities investigated the crash Sunday. Police did not arrest the other driver and impairment was not suspected, according to state troopers.
A few miles north, a state trooper had been struck and killed while parked on the shoulder of I-5 around 3 a.m. Saturday. The driver accused of causing that crash was suspected of being impaired.
