EVERETT — One man died in a single-vehicle crash in Everett early Saturday morning.
Around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Everett police responded to the crash in the 4300 block of Rucker Avenue. The 2025 Kia K4 had crashed into a building after a driver and a passenger allegedly fled from the Washington State Patrol, which was conducting a DUI investigation, an Everett Police Department social media post said.
A state trooper was evaluating the driver outside of the vehicle when they attempted to flee the scene near Evergreen Way and West Marilyn Avenue, court documents said. The subject then fled on foot back to the vehicle, where he switched places with the passenger, a man in his 40s, who drove away at a high rate of speed.
A Washington State Patrol pursuit ensued, court documents said. The suspect turned off the headlights and was unable to stay in the designated lane when he drove over the sidewalk, crashing into a building on the northwest corner of the 44th Street SE and Evergreen Way intersection.
The subject, who was in the passenger seat during the collision, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, court documents said. First responders transported the driver, who was partially ejected, to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett with multiple wounds on his head, court documents said.
The suspect was booked on suspicion of vehicular homicide.
