COLVILLE — The 107-year-old woman who had been mistreated by a caregiver at her home in northeast Washington has died at a nursing home in Colville.
The nephew of Frances Swan told The Spokesman-Review that she died Thursday at the home where she had been living since June of 2011 when she was found begging for food in her home in Kettle Falls.
She had been under the care of 79-year-old John “Herb” Friedlund who was sentenced in October to 10 years in prison for taking nearly $1 million from Swan’s retirement account. Friedlund sent cash to young men he met on gay websites.
A detective who went to the home to investigate a report that horses on the property were starving found Swan inside, in filthy conditions, begging for food.
