ORCAS ISLAND — The Coast Guard reports that a 130-foot sailboat has run aground at Orcas Island. The Washington state ferry Sealth helped remove 27 people from the ship. No injuries have been reported.
The 95-year-old schooner Adventuress ran aground at about noon today in Wasp Passage on its way to celebrate its birthday at the Tacoma Tall Ships Festival.
Petty Officer Tara Molle says the Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the grounding. No additional details about possible damage to the ship were immediately available.
The Adventuress is sailed by a Port Townsend company called Sound Experience. According to the company’s Web site, the ship was built as a working ship and was used by the Coast Guard during World War II.
