BREMERTON — The aircraft carrier Stennis will be in the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for the next several months for a $137 million overhaul.
The Navy says it will have extensive work on propulsion and aircraft launch and recovery systems. Radar and communications systems will be upgraded.
The Stennis returned to Naval Base Kitsap in July after a six-month deployment in the Pacific. It has a crew of 3,200.
The Kitsap Sun reports more than 300 are moving into new bachelors quarters. Congressman Norm Dicks and other officials toured the eight-story, $71 million building Wednesday at an opening ceremony.
