LONDON — A British court has ordered a store to pay $14,400 to a woman who broke her ankle and needed surgery because her stiletto heel snapped off.
A Manchester court Tuesday ordered the Dolcis store to pay Sophie King, whose ankle still swells painfully three years after her operation.
King told the court she was wearing the black strappy shoes for the first time while out with her friends when the heel snapped off, sending her sprawling onto the pavement. She tried to carry on but had to be hospitalized later that night.
Her lawyer, Michael Hardacre, said the court ruling was needed only to establish the size of the award. He said King’s ability to ski and play tennis has remained impaired.
