TACOMA — Pierce County prosecutors have filed charges of first-degree murder and 16 other counts against a man suspected of killing a 71-year-old and terrorizing dozens of people in Puyallup last week.
The News Tribune reported that Nathen Terault, 34, entered not-guilty pleas Monday in Superior Court. He was ordered held on $5 million bail.
Police say Terault shot and killed Richard Johnson after rummaging through Johnson’s truck last Tuesday.
According to charging documents, Terault then rampaged across town, firing at women, children and police. No one else was hit. He faces a dozen counts of first-degree assault.
He’s also accused of stealing a woman’s SUV at gunpoint before crashing it through her garage door and leading officers on a chase. Terault was arrested after he was shot by a Puyallup police detective and pinned under a police vehicle by another officer. He appeared in court in a wheelchair.
