CLEARVIEW — Crews will close all lanes of 180th Street SE west of Highway 9 to Snohomish Avenue for 20 days beginning this weekend.
The 1,000-foot section of roadway is planned to be shut down at 5 a.m. Saturday and is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. June 21. About 4,500 vehicles travel on that part of 180th each day.
The work is expected to be loud enough that the state Department of Transportation is offering earplugs to homeowners in the area.
During the closure, crews will remove the existing pavement and raise the roadway by several inches. Workers also will install a new drainage system, repave and grade the highway. The road must be raised for it to meet Highway 9 which is also being raised as part of the project to widen the highway between 212th and 176th streets.
Drivers who use 180th Street SE west of Highway 9 will have two detour options. Heading east toward Highway 9, drivers can choose to turn right onto Snohomish Avenue and then turn left onto Alder Street (188th Street SE) and rejoin Highway 9. Or they can turn left onto Snohomish Avenue and then right onto 176th Street SE to Highway 9. Drivers who need to travel west on 180th Street SE can use 176th Street SE or Alder Street (188th Street SE) to Snohomish Avenue. Local access will be maintained to homes and businesses in the construction zone.
To reduce noise, crews will use ambient back-up warning alarms that emit a less disruptive sound and station flaggers as spotters for backing equipment. Crews will also use noise shields when possible and avoid tailgate slamming. Nearby residents may still hear construction equipment noise overnight.
Residents who have concerns about the noise or would like to request earplugs may call the project office at 425-225-8770.
