TIJUANA, Mexico — Two men identified as American citizens have been shot to death in their vehicle while waiting at a Tijuana-area border crossing to enter the United States.
Prosecutors in Baja California state quote witnesses as saying a gunman approached the line of waiting cars and fired into the men’s pickup truck early Monday, hitting the victims in the head and body.
The state Attorney General’s Office says the men were U.S. citizens aged 25 and 28. The U.S. consulate in Tijuana has not confirmed their citizenship.
Investigators say they found 9-mm shell casings at the scene, ammunition used in weapons favored by drug cartel gunmen in Mexico.
