TULALIP — Two people have been arrested for investigation of possessing illegal explosives on the Tulalip Indian Reservation.
The man and woman were booked into Snohomish County Jail by Tulalip tribal police. The man sells fireworks at Boom City, the Tulalip Tribes’ fireworks market that opens each year just before Independence Day.
Federal fireworks laws, not state laws, apply on the Tulalip Indian Reservation. That means Boom City fireworks stands can sell the more powerful fireworks that are legal under state law, but some stand owners have been known to also offer explosives that are illegal under federal law.
Tulalip tribal police monitor sales at Boom City. Federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives also patrol the market to investigate complaints of the sale of illegal explosives.
