BOSTON — A top Massachusetts law enforcement official says two Pakistani men who have been taken into custody in the investigation into the failed Times Square car bomb provided money to the suspect, Faisal Shahzad.
The official says the men are believed to have provided money to Shahzad, but investigators are not sure whether they were witting accomplices or simply moving funds as is common between Middle Easterners and Central Asians living in the U.S. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.
Federal raids were conducted today in Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey. Authorities say the searches were the product of evidence gathered in the Times Square investigation.
An FBI spokeswoman said a third arrest in Maine was related, but said she had no additional details about it.
