WOODBURN, Ore. — Oregon State Police say an SUV may have lost traction because of icy conditions when it collided with a semi-truck on I-5 near Woodburn Saturday, killing the driver and another passenger.
Capt. Bill Fugate said in a news release Sunday that the crash killed the 36-year-old driver, Elman Gonzalez. A 23-year-old passenger Marlin Dias Hernandes died of her injuries at Salem Hospital. Two others in the Toyota 4Runner received minor injuries. All four are Springfield residents.
Fugate says the SUV was on the southbound I-5 on-ramp Saturday afternoon when it lost control and slid across the southbound lanes of I-5 where it collided with a semi-trailer. The driver of the semi-trailer was not injured.
