SNOHOMISH – The two men police believe barged into a Snohomish home last week and held a widow captive for three hours while they ransacked her home are now behind bars.
One man, 31, is in the Snohomish County Jail. The other man, 40, is jailed in Pierce County.
Detectives believe the men cased the neighborhood a week before the Dec. 4 robbery and decided that the widow’s home would have valuables inside, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said. The home is a rural area and is set back from the road.
Detectives have recovered some of the stolen items which included an extensive gun collection. The woman’s pickup truck, which was stolen during the robbery, was recovered Friday near Arlington.
Detectives say the break in the case came late Monday during a traffic stop in Tacoma, Hover said. The 40-year-old suspect was a passenger in the car. He had duffle bags with items stolen from the Snohomish home, Hover said. That man was booked into jail on outstanding warrants.
That arrest led police to the second suspect. Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies caught up with that suspect, an Arlington man, during a traffic stop on Tuesday night, Hover said.
The 40-year-old is being held for investigation of 20 counts of possession of stolen property, three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, two counts of possession of a stolen firearm and drug charges. The 31-year-old is being held for investigation of first-degree burglary, first-degree kidnapping and first-degree robbery.
Although they are being held for different reasons now, detectives have evidence that both men allegedly were involved in the holdup, officials said.
Both men are expected to go before judges this afternoon.
