KENT — Two men were killed in a fire about 4 a.m. Friday at a house near Kent where two women escaped safely.
South King County Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief Gordie Olson says two firefighters suffered back injuries while fighting the fire in the older home filled with personal belongings.
Olson says the fire was so intense when firefighters arrived they could not immediately enter the home. After they knocked down the flames they found the bodies.
He says a man and woman in their 60s lived in the home with their daughter and her son. The women got out. The dead are believed to be the man and his grandson.
The fire apparently started in a bedroom. Olson says a smoke alarm in the home was not working.
