ASTORIA, Ore. — Two Californians have been sentenced for what Clatsop County authorities call an extensive identity theft and gift card scam.
Prosecutor Ron Brown said the two were arrested in November and police found evidence of 150 identities and “tons of other people’s records.” He says they also seized a machine to make fraudulent gift cards.
The Daily Astorian reports up to 20 businesses took the cards. Brown said the district attorney’s office is still totaling the losses.
The two were sentenced Tuesday after agreeing to plea deals. Thirty-four-year-old Bradley Nicholas Stay of Fresno was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison. His girlfriend, 34-year-old Cherice Leona McMillian of Clovis, was sentenced to 4 1/2 years of probation.
Authorities say the two made their way by train and taxi from California.
