MOSES LAKE — Two Snohomish County men died over the weekend after their off-road vehicles collided south of Moses Lake in Eastern Washington, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
The collision occurred on Sand Dunes Road SE on Saturday. That’s on the edge of the Moses Lake Sand Dunes.
Alexander Benefiel, 23, of Lake Stevens, was riding a 2008 Yamaha quad westbound on Sand Dunes Road while Rick Peak, 54, of Snohomish, was riding a 1975 Honda eastbound, according to a news release on the sheriff’s office Facebook page. The riders were both traveling at high speed when they approached each other at a slight bend in the road. The ORVs collided head-on in the middle of the road, the report said.
“Good Samaritans and Grant County deputies performed CPR on both riders, but they were later confirmed deceased at the scene,” according to the accident report.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office Motor Traffic Unit is investigating the collision. Both riders were wearing helmets.
