MUKILTEO — Detectives continue to investigate Sunday’s double shooting on Camano Island that led to a high-speed pursuit and police gunfire in Mukilteo.
A man, who was shot in the head and neck area, remained at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Edmonds police Sgt. Mark Marsh said Monday. The man, 44, was in critical condition. A woman, who suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, was treated and released.
The suspected shooter, 34, also remained in critical condition Monday, Marsh said. That man was reportedly shot by police officers who had chased him into Mukilteo.
Island County sheriff’s detectives are investigating the incident on Camano Island. Detectives with the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team are investigating the police shooting.
Four officers, including two Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies, an officer with the Everett Police Department and a Washington State Patrol trooper, remain on paid administrative leave in keeping with standard procedure.
The Camano Island shootings were reported about 3:15 p.m. Sunday. The man and woman were shot while inside their vehicle, parked outside a home, Island County Sheriff Mark Brown said Monday. Police believe the suspect and victims, all from Camano Island, knew each other.
Brown said the motive remains unclear.
Not long after the gunfire was reported to 911, a trooper spotted the suspect vehicle on Highway 532. The driver led police on a high-speed chase southbound on I-5 and eventually into Mukilteo. Police were able to bump the car off the road in the 5300 block of 88th Street SW.
Multiple shots were fired and the suspect was struck.
It is unclear if the man fired at police. No officers were hurt.
