RICHLAND — A second group has announced its intention to file a lawsuit over the exposure of some Hanford Nuclear Reservation workers to harmful vapors.
The watchdog group Hanford Challenge, along with United Association Local 598 and Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility announced their intent to sue during a press conference in Pasco on Thursday.
They say they intend to sue the U.S. Department of Energy and its contractor, Washington River Protection Solutions, over worker exposure to chemical vapors from Hanford waste tanks.
The Washington state attorney general’s office on Wednesday said it intends to sue the department and its contractor over the vapors.
Hanford for decades made plutonium for nuclear weapons and the tank wastes are byproducts of that work.
