HOODSPORT — Three hikers have been rescued from Mount Ellinor in the Olympic National Forest after they were injured.
Mount Ellinor is about 15 miles west of Hoodsport.
A 911 call was received about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday to report there were three injured hikers on a higher elevation level of Mount Elinor in the national forest in Mason County.
The hikers, two women and one man, were rescued by two mountain rescue teams. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office says two of the hikers were airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center with head and neck injuries, while the other hiker was transported by ground with leg injuries.
It was not immediately clear how the hikers were injured. But an operations leader at Tacoma Mountain Rescue, Gus Bush, says it’s possible the trio may have been hit by a rock or piece of ice.
Mount Elinor is about 4,700 feet in elevation. So there are still some snow-covered areas.
