MUKILTEO — The state Department of Labor & Industries is investigating an incident at the Mukilteo Speedway Cafe on Sunday that sent three employees to the hospital.
A can of cooking spray fell into a fryer. The reaction from the aerosol burned two people and left another with possible hearing damage.
On Tuesday, one of the victims, a man, was listed in serious condition in intensive care at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Additional information about the others was not available. None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening, according to Snohomish County Fire District 1.
The restaurant just outside city limits was reopened as of Tuesday, according to its Facebook page
In January, L&I issued an alert to restaurants about the dangers of storing aerosol cans near cooking surfaces.
“They can get overheated and explode even if they are just sitting on a shelf in close proximity,” agency spokeswoman Elaine Fischer said. The alert cited three recent incidents in Washington.
