38th Legislative District, Position 2

Age: 38

Occupation: Contractor (with a background in aircraft maintenance and film promotion)

Political experience: Worked in the Tarzana, Calif., Chamber of Commerce office, 1995-96. Assisted in local and presidential campaigns in 1992, 1996, 1998 and 2000.

Work experience: Worked in film productions in Los Angeles. Budgeting personnel and equipment. Raising funds for multiple charities in California and Washington. Refurbishing homes knowing what materials are needed and shopping for the best price. Assisted auto insurance business in California.

Personal experience: Who’s to say what’s applicable? Sometimes it’s not the experience that makes a politician. It’s being a worker with an eye close to the public. Two kinds of people apply for this type of job. A “career politician,” bred from the cradle, and the “statesman” who brings hands-on experience as the average working man and does this as a job and wishes to do the best he or she can.

Top 3 issues: 1) Transportation freeway system – additional road space needed. Explore new venues of transportation. 2) Education – competitive pay. Quality of information teachers need to evaluate what they’re teaching our children. Remove prejudice without giving special rights to minorities over a Democratic majority. 3) Housing (low cost) – For low income families and the elderly.

Why voters should pick me: I’m an amateur historian with respect to our history. “Our home is where the heart is.” Our heart is our families, communities, city in which we live, county, district and our state. Respecting both and not one over the other with respect to balance, I believe I can give a balance with respect to our district and community. I support labor.

Fun facts: I’m a musician. I’ve been or have acted in films in Los Angeles. I am a Civil War re-enactor. I am a member of the Washington Civil War Association. I enjoy living history and sharing it with the public. I support the arts.

Age: 62

Occupation: State representative

Political experience: Current State Representative, 38th Legislative District, representing Everett and Marysville; Past President, Pilchuck Democratic Women’s Club; Managed election campaigns for Rep. Pat Scott, County Executive Bob Drewel, State Sen. Paull Shin (21st Legislative District) and Congressman Al Swift.

Work experience: Twenty years experience in private sector in accounting and human resources; own and manage rental properties.

Personal experience: Lifelong resident of this community; married 31 years to husband Don, a retired engineer; awarded IBEW union scholarship to attend college; earned Business Administration degree from the University of Washington; past President of the Everett Community College Board of Trustees; Medic One Foundation Executive Board member; Everett Senior Center Advisory Board member.

Top 3 issues: 1) Transportation – it is unacceptable that the Legislature failed to pass a transportation package. I will continue to place progress above partisan politics and find a solution. 2) Fiscal responsibility – like our families, government must live within its means. I will continue to promote tax fairness, reject unfair increases, and spend taxpayer funds wisely. 3) Education – we must continue to invest in K-12 education. It is important to expand retraining programs and provide affordable access to community and vocational colleges.

Why voters should pick me: A lifelong resident of our community, I recognize the values that make this a great place to live, work, and raise a family. I am proud of my role in improving education, public safety, and quality of life for seniors, and I am honored to serve as your state representative.

Fun facts: I have a small art glass collection that I started with a few pieces that I made myself. My husband Don and I live in the same home we purchased 31 years ago. In our spare time we enjoy boating in Puget Sound, fishing and spending time with family.

Age: 32

Occupation: Shipping, freelance data entry

Political experience: Secretary-Treasurer of Snohomish County Libertarian Party for the past year.

Work experience applicable to position: 14 years corporate work experience, including one year as a temporary worker for the United Federation of Teachers in New York City, where I experienced government inefficiency firsthand.

Personal experience applicable to position: I will bring a workingman’s common sense to the position.

Top 3 issues: 1) Individual liberty: The government should not be involved in what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home, or with their own bodies. 2) Private property: The government does not own our property, and should allow the owners to do as they wish with their own land. 3) Government waste: I will eliminate as much bureaucratic bunk as possible, and will fight to return government money to those who worked hard to earn it, the taxpayer.

Why voters should pick me: Given the record of the Democratic and Republican parties, I couldn’t possibly do any worse. I will reduce my pay by 20 percent and owe no allegiance to any special interests or corporations. I will not support any bill that increases taxes, under any circumstance.
