There aren’t many meetings around where taking a dog along is a necessity.
McKenzie Miller, 12, is vice president of Top Dogs, a 4-H group in Everett. She says they could sure use more members. They meet at 6 p.m. Mondays at different locations around Everett.
“We are having a hard time finding a place to meet inside with our dogs,” McKenzie says.
The seventh-grader at Centennial Middle School in Snohomish says her group is fun, interesting and gets a lot of 4-H work accomplished in the dog program.
She says the group has been around for about 15 years. Her dog is a Yorkshire terrier named Harley. Lydia Kane is president of the group. Her goldendoodle is named Copper.
Their leader is Gail Shelton-Elliot, and we won’t name her nine dogs.
“Ms. Gail did 4-H when she was younger,” McKenzie says. “Counting the years she’s been a leader, she’s been in 4-H for over 21 years. She knows what she is doing.”
McKenzie’s mother, Shannon Miller, helps lead the group.

They’ve got a cute advertising message for a Kamiak High School dance planned for Jan. 29.
“OK, men. Your wife or girlfriend has put up with a long season of football. And she knows you’ll be glued to the TV on Super Bowl Sunday. Why not show her your appreciation with ‘A Night in Vienna.’
There is more cuteness: “Don’t know how to dance, you say? No problem. Ballroom dance lessons will be offered complimentary by professional instructors from Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Everett.”
Hour-long dance lessons begin at 6 p.m., followed by the ball from 7 to 9 p.m. Money raised will help the Kamiak High School Orchestra go to Spain in April.
Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens or $10 for adults.
They’re available at the door or in advance. for more information, e-mail viennaball@kamiakarts.org.
Attire is dressy casual to formal. No football jerseys, please.

“So far nine of our students have become U.S. citizens since we began the classes a year ago. Our library and the Lynnwood Library are the only sources of free classes.
