ARLINGTON — An 8-year-old Arlington boy was airlifted to a Seattle hospital and another child and two adults were injured in a crash on Highway 530 Friday morning.
The crash happened about 9:30 a.m. at Whitman Road outside Oso. A 47-year-old Darrington woman was driving a Ford Crown Victoria westbound on the highway when she reportedly crossed the centerline and collided with a van carrying six children, Washington State Patrol trooper Kirk Rudeen said.
The impact of the crash spun the van around and it struck a utility pole.
The injured boy was taken by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center. He was in serious condition in the intensive care unit Friday, hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg-Hanson said.
The other injured child was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. More information on that child was not available Friday, Rudeen said.
The driver of the of the Crown Victoria and her husband, who was a passenger in the car, were both taken to Cascade Valley Hospital in Arlington, where they were treated and released from the emergency room.
The driver of the van, a 34-year-old woman from Arlington, is the mother of some of the children. Others are friends or relatives, Rudeen said.
Highway 530 was closed for an hour and a half while troopers investigated the crash.
Both vehicles were total losses.
The crash remains under investigation.
