EASTON — If you were caught in Monday’s 27-mile backup on Interstate 90 east of Snoqualmie Pass, don’t take it personally — so were about 53,000 other vehicles.
Freeway construction across the pass was suspended during the holiday weekend. But Washington Department of Transportation spokeswoman Amanda Sullivan said a lot of people simply tried to drive home from eastern Washington at the same time — Monday afternoon.
Sullivan said the four-lane freeway east of the pass frequently get jammed during holidays, especially eastbound at Hyak at the start of the weekend and westbound at Easton at the end.
In all over the Memorial Day weekend, the state agency counted about 180,000 vehicles crossing Snoqualmie Pass.
