MOUNT VERNON — The Skagit County sheriff’s office says detectives have arrested six people suspected of seeking young children on the Internet for sexual exploitation.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports the arrested include a corrections deputy at the Whatcom County Jail, an active duty Navy sailor and a 17-year-old man.
The men were from Mount Vernon, Anacortes, Stanwood and Burlington. They were arrested last month at various locations when they attempted to meet children for sex.
Undercover officers posing as children set up phony email accounts and profiles on social networks such as Facebook.
Skagit County Prosecutor Rich Weyrich asked law enforcement to pursue online child predators. He says the men will likely face charges of attempted child rape and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
