SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities say a sixth person has died from injuries suffered in a fiery, head-on collision over the holiday weekend in southeastern Utah.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said Monday a seventh person also is in very critical condition. Royce says the crash happened when a minivan driver made a bad pass and slammed into an oncoming sports car with two people on board.
The incident occurred Sunday afternoon on U.S. Route 191 near Monticello, about 285 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.
Royce says the sports car caught fire, killing a man from Arizona and a woman from Nevada. Five people were in the minivan, and three of them died at the scene.
Authorities are withholding the victims’ identities until all family members have been notified.
