The Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens President Trevor Cameron on Jan. 10 presented Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin and the Everett City Council with a check for $75,000 to finish the South Area of the arboretum.
The nonprofit, all-volunteer Arboretum cares for themed and demonstration gardens on over 3 acres at Legion Memorial Park, 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett. The grounds are open to the public from dawn to dusk.
Volunteers worked for five years to raise the grant money, which will add the final piece of the gardens. The Everett Parks and Community Services Department has begun preparing for walkways, bases for sculptures, and gardens. Work is expected this year.
