EVERETT — An Everett woman was ordered on Monday to spend eight months in jail for an alcohol-fueled crash that caused major damage to the Highway 529 bridge.
Tory Long also was ordered to pay about $111,000 — the cost to fix the bridge, according to KIRO-TV.
A judge agreed that if Long remained employed she could do her jail sentence on work release. That means she would be allowed to go to her job but would return to jail for the hours she isn’t working.
Long was intoxicated when she tried to outrun a Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy in north Everett last year. She slammed into the old bridge and damaged support beams. Crews worked around the clock to repair the bridge but the roadway wasn’t open for the evening commute the following Monday.
Traffic in Everett came to a standstill and thousands of drivers were delayed.
