I wrote a story for today’s paper about Everett’s newest three-striker, Jerry Perkins.
He will be joining 253 Washington inmates who are serving life without parole because of the persistent offender or “three-strikes” law.
As of Tuesday, the state had 605 offenders serving life without parole, corrections spokesman Chad Lewis said.
That means three-strikers count for nearly 42 percent of the state’s lifers.
You can read more about the state’s three-strikers and many of their criminal histories in this 2007 report by the state’s Sentencing Guidelines Commission.
You also can find a host of sentencing laws on this Revised Code of Washington entry and more information about which crimes count as strikes if you scroll down this page.
