While those in the tea party movement in Washington state didn’t sweep any big political names from office Tuesday night, they may drive one of their members into office in Island County this November.
Republican Kelly Emerson , an organizer of tea party meetings and rallies, is leading Democrat Island County Commissioner John Dean in primary results posted Tuesday.
She had 59.4 percent to his 40.6 percent and was leading in 21 of the county’s 26 precincts.
Emerson, who many know by her e-mail handle of ‘Jane Citizen”, set up renewliberty.com last year and then slowly waded into community politics to the point where she decided to run for office.
She’s taking on Dean the former editor* of the Stanwood/Camano News who left newspapering in 2006 to seek the commissioner’s seat.
* Dean’s job title at the Stanwood/Camano News was incorrectly reported in an earlier version of this blog posting.
