Cmdr. Michael J. Lehman assumed command of the Everett-based USS Shoup from Cmdr. Mark A. Johnson during a change-of-command ceremony April 19 in Singapore. Johnson’s next assignment will be as the operations director of U.S. Pacific Command, Camp Smith, Hawaii.

The Shoup and the rest of the USS Abraham Lincoln Strike Group are currently on a seven-month deployment to support maritime security operations.

The Shoup and the Lincoln left Everett in mid-March headed to Hawaii for a four-day port visit in Pearl Harbor, followed by a major undersea warfare exercise in the Hawaiian operating area.

While traveling to Singapore, the Shoup, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, participated in a passing exercise with the Royal Singapore Navy. The Strike Group also hosted a reception aboard the Lincoln for Singapore navy and embassy officials.

Sailors were able to visit Singapore through tours provided by the Lincoln’s Morale Welfare and Recreation Department.

Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Derrick L. Hardeman has completed electronics technician A school in Petaluma, Calif. He will be stationed in New Orleans for the next three years. A 1996 graduate of Everett High School, Hardeman is the son of Jeanette and John Huntsman of Camano Island and the fiance of Katie Gallaway of Everett.

Army Pvt. Patrick E. Zimmerman has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. Zimmerman is the son of Lori Fleming of Sultan.

Army Pvt. Torry J. Jennings has graduated from Basic Combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Jennings is the nephew of Debbie Gurtin of Arlington.

Air Force Airman Tyler C. Rico has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Sheri Rico of Oak Harbor and a 2007 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.
