Air Force Senior Airman Christopher P. MacFadden is serving at Sather Air Base in Iraq as a member of the 447th Air Expeditionary Group.

MacFadden is a fuels distribution specialist with three years of military service. He is the son of Paul and Barbara MacFadden of Edmonds and is a 1999 graduate of Edmonds-Woodway High School.

Air Force Airman Vongnaphone Thipphakesone has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. She is the daughter of Chanthavy Thipphakesone of Everett.

Air Force Airman Antonio E. Cruz has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is the son of Jerry and Jane Crowley of Marysville and a 2006 graduate of Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

Air Force Airman Mark Neilsen D. Joco has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Joco is the son of Nelson and Elsie Joco of Marysville.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Jeremy J. Osborn has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Osborn is the son of Cynthia Buckenmeyer of Mill Creek.

Air Force Airman Sara A. Holibonich has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

She is the daughter of Steve Holibonich of Freeland and Debi Adams of Clinton and is a 2003 graduate of South Whidbey High School in Langley.

Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Jeffrey Cowardin has retired from the U.S. Air Force after 29 years of service. Prior to retiring, Cowardin served as Superintendent of the 86th Operations Group at Ramstein Air Base, Kaiserslautern, Germany.

The chief joined the Air Force in 1978 and began his career as an aircraft maintenance mechanic and later cross-trained into the flight engineer career field in 1982.

He has held various job positions at locations such as Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Miss.; Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark.; Andersen Air Force Base, Agana, Guam; the former Clark Air Base, Philippines; Yokota Air Base, Tokyo, Japan (two tours); and Pope Air Force Base, Fayetteville, N.C.

Cowardin has been awarded Chief Enlisted Aircrew Wings for serving as an instructor and evaluator engineer and has accumulated almost 7,000 flight hours in five different series of the C-130 aircraft.

Some of his major military decorations include four awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, three awards of the Air Medal, two awards of the Aerial Achievement Medal, and three awards of the Air Force Commendation Medal.

He is the son of Chuck Cowardin of Startup. In 1978, Cowardin graduated from Sultan High School. He earned an associate degree in 1996 from the Community College of the Air Force, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.

Coast Guard Seaman Derrick L. Hardeman has completed Coast Guard basic training at Cape May , N. J.

The son of Jeanette and John Huntsman of Camano Island, Hardeman graduated in 1996 from Everett High School. He previously served six years in the Air Force.

Hardeman currently is stationed at the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center, Petaluma, Calif., where he is receiving electronics technician training.

Army Master Sgt. Reginald K. Washington graduated from the Army Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas. Washington is a recruiter with 23 years of military service. His wife, Sharon, is the daughter of Myrna LaRue of Everett.

Janee A. Spelman has received an Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps college scholarship. Upon graduation from college and completion of the ROTC program, the cadet will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force.

She is the daughter of Richard and Sylvia Spelman of Mukilteo and a 2007 graduate of Kamiak High School.

John R. Geis has received an Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps college scholarship.

Upon graduation from college and completion of the ROTC program, the cadet will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force. He is the son of Robert and Rebecca Geis of Snohomish and a 2007 graduate of Snohomish High School.

Army Pvt. Brittany E. Frunz has graduated from the Petroleum Supply Specialist Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va. She is the daughter of David M. Sonsteng of Gold Bar and Erin Hendrickson of Everett.

Her husband, Anthony, is the son of Kurt and Tina Frunz of Everett. Frunz is a 2005 graduate of Cascade High School, Everett.

Army National Guard Pvt. Conor C. O’Reilly has graduated from Basic Combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Michael and Susan O’Reilly of Everett and a 2006 graduate of Everett High School.

Army Pvt. Dena M. Douglas has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Douglas is the niece of Ellynk Reef of Everett.

Army Pvt. Diana L. Dvorak has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

She is the daughter of Laura Dvorak of Monroe. Dvorak graduated in 2000 from Monroe High School.

Army Pvt. Daniel S. Karelsen has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Adolphus Karelsen of Stanwood. Karelsen graduated in 2000 from Lakewood High School, Marysville.

Army Pvt. Joseph D. Villalobos has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Kathleen Little of Lake Stevens and a 2006 graduate of Mariner High School.

Richard S. McNew has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army after successfully completing the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps program and graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. His wife, Erin, is the daughter of Dr. Steven and Willa Sharmahd of Mukilteo.

Adam J. Dudak has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army after successfully completing the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps program and graduating with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Montana.

Dudak will be assigned to the 181st Brigade Support Battalion, Seattle. He is the son of Peter Dudak of Lynnwood and Cathy Dudak of Mukilteo.

Air Force Master Sgt. Julie I. Dunn has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

She is the daughter of Jonathan Dunn of South Texas and the granddaughter of Shirley Dunn of Bellingham. Dunn is a 2001 graduate of Bothell High School.

Army Pvt. Keaton E. Frye has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. He is the son of Carla Howe of Everett and the grandson of Carol Curtis of Marysville.
