Army Pfc. Chris A. Nichols is currently deployed overseas at a forward operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Nichols, an ammunition specialist with one year of military service, is normally assigned to the 101st Sustainment Brigade, Fort Campbell, Ky. He is the son of Mark Nichols of Edmonds and Tammy Dobbs of Seattle. The private is a 2003 graduate of Sealth High School in Seattle.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class John S. Kermgard, son of Gregory Kermgard of Snohomish, has returned from a scheduled deployment while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge homeported in Norfolk, Va. Kermgard is a 2003 graduate of International High School of Bellevue and joined the Navy in September 2003.

Army Pfc. Collin N. Smith has deployed to Iraq as a member of the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team to support the mission of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Smith, a cannon crewmember with one year of military service, is the son of Terry and Lorraine Smith of Arlington. The private is a 2004 graduate of Arlington High School.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Ted M. Cheeseboro, son of Yolanda and James Cheeseboro of Oak Harbor, participated in Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita relief efforts while assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 40, based in Port Hueneme, Calif. Cheeseboro is a 2000 graduate of Oak Harbor High School and joined the Navy in November 2001.

Navy Seaman Recruit Leif A. Knudson, son of Liane and Eric Knudson of Marysville, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Knudson is a 2005 graduate of Grace Academy in Marysville.

Navy Seaman Recruit Amanda M. Case, a 2005 graduate of Arlington High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Seaman Recruit Jesse S. Johnsen, daughter of Sue Kaul of Unalaska, Alaska, and Alan Johnsen of Oak Harbor, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Johnsen is a 2004 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

Nicholas E. Winters graduated from the Army ROTC Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as “Operation Warrior Forge,” at Fort Lewis, Tacoma. Winters is the son of Kim Carlson of Marysville and Roderick Winters of Sammamish. He is a 2002 graduate of Marysville-Pilchuck High School, and is currently attending Washington State University.

Michael D. Balam graduated from the Army ROTC Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as “Operation Warrior Forge,” at Fort Lewis. Balam is the son of Lilia and Randy Balam of Lynnwood. He is a 2002 graduate of Lynnwood High School and is currently attending Washington State University.

Air Force Airman Glendon P. Conte has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. He is the son of Erasto Conte of Mountlake Terrace. Conte is a 2004 graduate of Mountlake Terrace High School.

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Rebecca E. Aho has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. She is the daughter of Craig and Astrid Aho of Mountlake Terrace. The airman is a 2002 graduate of Mountlake Terrace High School.

Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice John R. Korth, son of Mercy and Brian Korth of Arlington, recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N. J.

Navy Seaman Robert R. Lucero, a 2002 graduate of Oak Harbor High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
