Michael P. Massarelli has been promoted to sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. A 2000 graduate of Snohomish High School, Massarelli enlisted in December 2000 and was the honorman of his platoon during recruit training. After completing advanced infantry training in which he received a meritorious mast for outstanding leadership ability, he was assigned to a fleet anti-terrorist security team at Yorktown, Va. His platoon was sent to New York to provide security for cleanup crews after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and he was later deployed to Liberia and the Mediterranean. He is now stationed at Twentynine Palms, Calif., and is serving as a military policeman. He is the son of Jack and Kathy Massarelli of Snohomish.
Air Force Airman 1st Class Valerie N. Galioto has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Galioto is the daughter of Andrew and Monika Galioto of Everett. She is a 2002 graduate of Snohomish High School.
Douglas M. Sparacio has been awarded an Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps college scholarship. The cadet was selected on the basis of comprehensive test scores, high school scholastic achievement, school officials’ evaluations, extra-curricular activities and community involvement. Sparacio’s parents are Michael and Susan Sparacio of Marysville. Sparacio is a 2004 graduate of Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy High School.
Air Force Senior Airman Christopher S. Johnson is deployed to Iraq with the Armed Forces Network. The airman and his team are working to install and set up the first live American radio station, and repairing malfunctioning television and radio sites. Johnson is a visual imagery intrusion detection systems technician normally assigned to the 1st Communications Squadron, Langley Air Force Base, Hampton, Va. He is the son of Kathryn Smith of Oak Harbor and Jeffery S. Johnson of Pendleton, Ore. Johnson is a 2001 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.
