LYNNWOOD — People passed out in a running car near Lynnwood were awakened by Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies early Friday. The driver reportedly spooked, and rammed the deputies’ patrol cars.
No one was hurt.
A gray Honda Civic was blocking 48th Place West in the Picnic Point area around 4:30 a.m., sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shari Ireton said. The lights were on, but the driver and passenger were slumped over. Police suspected drug use.
Deputies walked over to check if they were all right. The driver woke up and allegedly began fighting. He put the Civic in drive and hit two patrol vehicles before taking off, Ireton said. The damage was not severe.
The pair had not immediately been found Friday.
A similar situation from July left a deputy injured and three patrol vehicles damaged.
In that case, police spotted a stolen vehicle parked in a disabled space in the 3200 block of 132nd Street SE in Mill Creek. Two women and a man were asleep inside. It was about 4:40 a.m.
When a deputy woke the sleeping passengers, the woman behind the wheel reportedly rammed a patrol car and drove away. Police followed for about a mile and a half toward Everett. They stopped the car with a tire-puncturing device and PIT maneuvers, which are controlled collisions that deputies use to cause a fleeing vehicle to spin out and stall.
That driver was arrested for investigation of multiple felonies, including first-degree assault and eluding police.
