EDMONDS — An Edmonds woman was taken into custody Tuesday for reportedly having too many dogs under city codes after police and animal control officers began investigating allegations of animal cruelty.
Fourteen dogs were found in and around the home in the 23600 block of 76th Avenue W. City law allows five dogs.
“Initial investigation by the animal control officers showed that only five dogs were properly licensed,” Edmonds police Sgt. Mark Marsh said.
All 14 dogs were impounded until the five that are properly licensed can be identified.
Edmonds police were made aware of a video depicting possible animal cruelty, Marsh said.
Based on the video, they began an investigation with city animal control officers.
Detectives worked with the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office to apply for a search warrant.
A YouTube video showed several dogs on the property appearing to gang up on one dog, Marsh said.
Two dogs, including the one observed in the video, were taken to a local veterinarian for treatment. The dog observed in the video suffered numerous dog bites and the second dog had an injured leg.
The impounded dogs will be kept at a local kennel during the completion of the investigation.
The Edmonds woman, 44, was expected to be booked into the Snohomish County Jail Tuesday evening.
