EVERETT – Police say a man who took a taxi to rob an Everett bank admitted that he had held up two other banks in the past two months.
Bruce Arpin, 29, handed a teller a note demanding money Thursday afternoon at CityBank in the 5600 block of Evergreen Way. He ran off with $1,085.
Police caught up with Arpin after Wienerschnitzel worker Domenic Baker spotted him getting into a waiting taxi.
Arpin told police that he robbed banks because of his drug habit, according to an affidavit filed in Everett District Court Friday.
He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of three counts of first-degree robbery.
Police say Arpin admitted holding up the First Security Bank in south Everett Feb. 17 and Banner Bank in Edmonds a week later, according to court documents.
Arpin got away with those robberies, but things went sour Thursday.
He took a cab from downtown Everett to a pawnshop near the bank. After the heist, he gave cabdriver, Mark Namur, the wrong directions out of the parking lot.
Namur, who didn’t realize he was the getaway driver, got caught up in traffic on Evergreen. Within minutes, police pulled a wad of money from Aprin’s hands and handcuffed him in the back seat of the cab.
Arpin appeared Friday in Everett District Court, where bail was set at $75,000.
