The warmest weather of the year is forecast for this weekend.
Everett won’t get as warm as other areas in the state, but temperatures are expected to stay in the lower 70s on Saturday and Sunday.
The forecasted highs of 72 degrees on Saturday and 73 degrees on Sunday in the city are slightly cooler than the mid-to-upper 70s temperatures that are expected in areas farther east and southeast of Everett, said Allen Kam, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Seattle. Temperatures in other areas of the state, including near Olympia and Chehalis, are expected to reach highs closer to 80 degrees.
The sunshine and warm temperatures aren’t expected to last through the weekend as clouds return and temperatures are expected to drop back to 63 degrees in the city.
“Mother Nature’s air conditioning will turn on again and the onshore flow will bring cooler marine air into the coast,” Kam said.
The National Weather Service in Seattle issued a statement late Thursday about the predicted sunny weekend and reminded people to be cautious if the warm weather prompts them to head out and enjoy time by any local rivers.
The warm weather makes it easy to forget the area is still transitioning from a sunshine-poor late spring to early summer, Kam said.
“The rivers are running high, they are fast and they are really cold,” he said. “It’s just a hazardous situation.”
