Maria Ambalada, who ran third in the Aug. 4 primary for a position on the Lynnwood City Council, has endorsed incumbent Councilman Loren Simmonds over general-election challenger Shirley Sutton.
Final primary results posted Tuesday showed Simmonds, president of the Lynnwood Council, leading the race for Council Position 4 with 43.61 percent of the votes to 37.92 percent for Sutton and 16.68 percent for Ambalada.
Snohomish County elections officials counted 4,151 Lynnwood ballots.
Officials certified final results Tuesday.
Ambalada said Sunday that the city needed Simmonds’ 16 years of experience on the council, with the city having a first-term mayor and the possibility of some new council members.
Results of the other Lynwood Council position on the August ballot showed challenger Chris Frizell leading incumbent Councilman Benjamin Goodwin 45.85 percent to 41.04 percent, with candidate Douglas Jones trailing at 12.07 percent.
Two other Lynnwood positions will appear only on the November ballot because they had only two candidates each.
Ambalada called her support in the primary “remarkable,” because she relied only on “name familiarity and the expense of filing fee.”
Simmonds has reported raising $8,095 and spending $4,412 to no fundraising or spending for Ambalada or Sutton.
She also noted that many registered voters did not mail their ballots.
Voter turnout was 22.91 percent, about the same as the county average.
