NEW YORK — A woman found in Manhattan who apparently has amnesia has been identified as an 18-year-old from Washington state.
Police would not say on Saturday how the woman had been identified. They also declined to release her name pending confirmation of her identity by relatives. Her town in Washington also was not released.
Police were working to reunite her with family.
Officers responding to a call on Oct. 9 in Midtown Manhattan picked up the woman at Covenant House, a shelter for homeless youth near the Port Authority.
The woman told authorities she was unable to recall details about her identity.
Police say the woman is in the custody of child welfare services.
