EVERETT – The crew of a Chicago-bound Amtrak train found an unidentified body on the right-of-way of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway tracks between Everett and Lowell Friday night, officials said.
It was not known how the person died, and officials were “further investigating to determine exactly what occurred,” said Gus Melonas, a railway spokesman.
Melonas said it had not been determined whether the body was that of a man or woman. Everett police believe the body was that of a woman who was struck by the train and dragged about four blocks, Everett police Sgt. Boyd Bryant said.
The body was discovered about 5:20 p.m. The Amtrak train was delayed for 90 minutes, Melonas said.
