ANACORTES — Police arrested a man at an Anacortes marina Tuesday suspected of setting fire to a pickup truck.
KIRO-TV reports the truck owner had offered to let the suspect sleep in the back of his pickup truck overnight Monday while he slept in the cab. The owner woke up, smelled smoke and saw flames coming from the back of his truck. The suspect was watching from a short distance away.
Police arrested 43-year-old Steven Cooney for investigation of arson and attempted murder. Investigators believe he’s also responsible for recent fires at a church and the Salvation Army in Anacortes as well as a residential fire last year.
