SNOHOMISH — An investigation is under way to determine what led a Snohomish County Animal Control Services officer to shoot a bull Friday near Snohomish.
The bull and a cow were kept in a pasture next to Flowing Lake Park. A tree fell on the fence, allowing the animals to escape, said Vicki Lubrin, license and animal control services manager.
“The bull was aggressively charging through the park, and the deputy and animal control officer several times,” Lubrin said Monday. “It apparently had charged at a camper.”
This was not the first time cattle had escaped from their pasture. However, it was the first time a bull got into the park.
“There was no way to contain the bull safely,” Lubrin said.
The area is heavily wooded. An animal control officer killed the bull with a shotgun.
“In situations like this, they rely on training and experience. Obviously, public safety was a big concern,” Lubrin said.
