MOUNT VERNON – Skagit County prosecutors filed animal cruelty charges today against the owners of a Mount Vernon kennel where around 450 dogs were seized last week in connection with an investigation that started near Gold Bar.
Skagit County prosecutor Richard Weyrich announced that his office has filed four counts of second-degree animal cruelty in Skagit County District court against Richard and Marjorie Sundberg.
Officials found dogs living in terrible conditions, covered with urine and feces, and lacking proper food and water.
Investigators in Snohomish County also are collecting evidence for a possible animal cruelty case. Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies and animal control officers on Jan. 16 rescued around 160 dogs from a home near Gold Bar living in what court papers describe as “deplorable” conditions. They also searched the Snohomish homes of Marjorie Sundberg’s daughters.
No charges been filed in Snohomish County, where the investigation is continuing.
Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said Wednesday much investigative work remained to be done.
