BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — A cruise ship that ran aground off Antarctica is awaiting the arrival of a ship to retrieve the 64 passengers and 41 crew members.
Ship operator Quark Expeditions says it has sent another vessel in its fleet toward the Bahaman-flagged Ocean Nova, which ran aground Tuesday morning amid high winds.
The Ocean Nova was unable to break free during the rising evening tide as officials had hoped.
Connecticut-based Quark Expeditions says in a news release that “continuing high winds thwarted the attempt to dislodge” the ship today.
The company and Argentina’s navy say those on board are in no danger. They will be taken to Ushuaia, Argentina’s southernmost city.
